Suggestions on dealing with access to the humidifier was appreciated. Rep. answered my questions and was helpful. Glad the service was provided but I did think the price was high for the service but I had agreed to the cost before hand.

For the past 7 years, we've done semi-annual maintenance on our heating/cooling system (Spring & Fall). Typically, we use "coupons" or $49 "specials" for these heating/cooling check-ups.

This past week, we used another companies $49 furnace "inspection" coupon after using them for the past year or so. The technician came out and all of sudden, last week, informed us that we needed a new blower, a new blower capacitor, and our coils needed cleaning. The total cost for all 3 repairs was in the neighborhood of $800.

I decided immediately to check out Angie's List and reviews on local heating & cooling companies. I contacted 3 companies with the highest/best reviews. One company never responded to my correspondence. One other company didn't service the Greeley area. I did contact Fort Collins Heating & Cooling and they called me back that day. We set up an appointment for yesterday. Ken Pokora came out. He was simply awesome.
One interesting thing he found, that no one else in 7 years ever noticed is that the wiring within my thermostat was cross-wired. He corrected that. He did find a bad capacitor and replaced it. ($74 vs. $130 quote from the other company). However, after changing the capacitor, he tested the blower and said it was fine. Since the coils are within the actual heat duct, above the furnace, you can't see if they are clogged. However, he did test the air coming out of the furnace and was able to determine by his test that the coils are NOT clogged. He also spent a fair amount of time educating me about my furnace and my humidifier and how the whole system operates.

So, while they charge a $43 trip charge, my total bill was $184. That was basically $65 for the diagnostic work, $43 for the trip charge, and $74 for the capacitor. A price I was more than willing to pay!

I recommend this company 100%! And, guess what? No more $49 "furnace inspections" for this family.....

John from Fort Collins Heating & Air looked at both units and said there was no reason to replace either, that both just needed to be serviced... something I paid One Hour Heating & Air to do, and they did not perform the work.

I called Fort Collins Heating & Air back and scheduled them to service both units, and will sign on to their yearly service agreement. John was courteous, professional, and totally honest!!! I highly recommend this company!

"Glenn came out to work on the estimate and listened well about what I needed, and asked questions the other two estimators did not. He also visited with the completed estimate - actually three, to give me choices. I felt like I understood the choices more thoroughly and agreed on a system. Glenn then called the next day with the news that the AC unit quoted was a little harder to get, and that I could save $1000 by picking this year's stock, which I agreed to do. Not every job gets cheaper after you sign! The final price matched my second favorite quote, but I felt like I got better and more appropriate gear for the money.

The installers who worked on my job were great, they made it look easy and they worked well together. The furnace vent that had concerned the other guys was done before I knew it, and was no big deal. We had heat and hot water at the end of the day, and they came back and finished the AC and some detail work the next day. Without a lot of effort, they also balanced the heat so the cold spots and warm spots are closer to average, and they installed some dampers that will let me adjust the flow when we get into AC season."
